If you don't have a lot of room to store a conventional pressure washer in your garage, a wall mount pressure washer is an excellent alternative. Additionally, if you're sick and tired of having to relocate your traditional pressure washer every time you want to use it and also when working around your vehicle then a wall mount pressure washer may be the one for you!

When it comes time to purchase a wall mount pressure washer, it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. This guide will help you make the best decision based on your needs.

What is a wall mount pressure washer?

A wall mount pressure washer is an excellent addition to your car care arsenal, especially if you want your garage to be clean and organized. This style of pressure washer is mounted to the wall, taking up less floor space and allowing you to have a clutter-free garage workspace.

Typically a wall mount pressure washer will have the following items:

  • wand and nozzles
  • hose reel
  • pressure washer motor
  • wall mount setup hardware
  • accessories may include foam cannon and various nozzle tips for different spraying sizes and usages

The a-la-carte feel of the wall mount is the main difference between it and the conventional pressure washer. The primary reason for this difference in setup is to enable flexibility when installing the pressure washer to your garage wall. It's not a one-size-fits-all approach when you're installing a piece of equipment of this nature.

Easier to use: When you have a long hose that allows you to easily transport the pressure washer wand around your car, driveway, or yard, you'll save time by not having to stop and start.

Why a wall mount over a traditional pressure washer?

It comes down to personal preference in answering this question. While this may seem vague it's worth exploring an example of our working shop in more detail to provide context.

Our working car detailing shop is located in a 40 plus-year-old collision center building attached to a car dealership. The car detailing business is operated out of two bays which are relatively small in length -- about 30 feet in depth each. (The bays were originally constructed with mid-1980s compact cars in mind.) This can make for a tight fit when pick-up trucks are in for car detailing.

Our two bay car detailing shop.

We explored the possibility of installing wall-mount pressure washers in both bays as a way to free up much-needed floor space. We've decided to invest once our current pressure washers stop functioning regularly. (We have four in rotation from over the years which are serviced regularly.)

As mentioned above, a big drawback of traditional pressure washers that we notice regularly is the hose length issue. The problem with the traditional pressure washer is that the hose sits on the ground versus off the wall with the wall mount. This can sometimes cause the hose to get tangled around the car tires when spraying the car with the pressure washer.

Is there a performance difference between a wall mount and a traditional pressure washer?

No there is not a difference. For the most part, both types of pressure washers can come in both commercial and residential applications. It is personal preference and your intended use.

Consider a wall-mount pressure washer for the following reasons:

  • Limit hose getting tangled around the car as you wash it
  • Aesthetic garage appeal with a neat and tidy install on your wall
  • More space for working

Drawbacks of a wall-mount pressure washer:

  • Fixed location, which limits is household usefulness
  • Electrical and water hook-up need to be near the installed area, if not it will be expensive to have an electrician install a new outlet as an example
  • Proper installation takes more time to setup
  • Can be drastically more expensive than traditional pressure washers

Things to consider when purchasing a wall mount pressure washer

Before you purchase a wall mount pressure washer, there are a few things you need to consider. This will help ensure that you buy the right product for your needs.

Motor size

Amazon Your Garage

First, consider the size of the projects you plan to use the pressure washer for. If you will only be using it for small projects, then a smaller electric wall mount pressure washer is a good option.

  • Less than 20 amp motor would be considered on the small size

However, if you plan to use it for larger projects, then you may want to consider a larger-sized pressure washer.

  • Greater than 25 amp motor would be on the larger size

Electrical outlet

This directly corresponds to the motor size. The greater the motor size, the greater the possibility you will require a 240-volt outlet. This is similar to a washer/dryer outlet and would have to be installed by an electrician.

Flow rate

The overall amount of pressure coming from the wand. The greater the water pressure, the easier it is to remove embedded dirt and grime from your car.

  • Anything less than 2 GPM (gallons-per-minute) would be ideal for residential use
  • Greater than 3 GMP and you're entering commercial-grade or more in line with regular use (car detailing as a business as an example)

This is the measure of pounds-per-square-inch that the water is putting out. This will determine how effective the pressure washer is at cleaning your car.

  • Less than 2000 PSI is ideal for general residential use
  • Greater than 2000 PSI is ideal for commercial use

Water type

The majority of pressure washers are only suitable for use with cold water. While this is generally sufficient, having a pressure washer that can work with hot water could be beneficial. This is critical if you intend to utilize the pressure washer during the colder months (fall and winter).

How do you mount a pressure washer to the wall?

Generally, wall-mounted pressure washers are attached to the wall in one of two ways. Some models come with a bracket that is permanently affixed to the wall. The pressure washer then attaches to this bracket. Other models have a hook that is inserted into the wall and the pressure washer hangs on this hook.

Regardless of the type of wall mount pressure washer you choose, be sure that it is securely attached to the wall. This will ensure both your safety and the longevity of your pressure washer.
